Asymmetries In Life

Asymmetries In Life

Asymmetries in life refer to situations where the potential upside and downside are not equal, one side carries far more impact, risk, or reward than the other.

Here’s how it plays out:

  • Asymmetric Risk/Reward: You take a small risk, but the potential reward is huge.
Example: Starting a side hustle might cost you some time, but could lead to financial freedom.

  • Asymmetric Relationships: Some people give more than they take, while others take more than they give.
Example: A mentor gives you advice that drastically improves your life, while costing them very little.

  • Asymmetric Decisions: A single choice can disproportionately impact your future.
Example: Moving to a new city, saying yes to an opportunity, or building a habit can change your entire trajectory.

  • Asymmetric Learning: Some books, podcasts, or experiences give you insight that drastically shifts your thinking with minimal time or cost.
Example: Reading one book that changes how you think about money, health, or relationships.

So why does it matter?

Recognizing life’s asymmetries helps you make better decisions, take smarter risks, and invest your time, energy, and money where it can deliver the biggest returns.

How to identify Asymmetries in you life?

  • Take stock of areas where you could take small risks for potentially large rewards. Think about side hustles, investment opportunities, or new learning experiences. Start small, whether it’s spending a few hours a week on a passion project or investing in a skill you’ve been putting off.

  • Tip: Remember that the reward doesn't always have to be financial, it could be a new skill, a broader network, or a new perspective.

7 Levels Deep Exercise

Dean Graziosi is a multiple New-York times best seller, entrepreneur and investor.

Ever heard of Tony Robbins?

Well… Dean and Tony are best friends.

Usually this podcast dives into health and wellness but this one was more unique as it offered some profound reframes on life.

There is a segment in the podcast where Dean questions you about your desires in life and what is stopping you from achieving them.

He uses an amazing story where he takes you to the end of your life to help you uncover what is holding you back and then provides a reframe to help you get started.

Some other key points that resonated:

  • Mindset matters more than strategy, believe before you build.

  • Real success comes from purpose, not just profit.

  • Courage is taking action even when you're scared.

  • Shift your inner self-talk to boost confidence and clarity.

  • Use setbacks as fuel for growth and resilience.

  • Your body supports your vision, stay physically strong.

Lots of great nuggets to carry with you from this podcast. Highly recommend.

Measure Of Wealth

The best measure of wealth is what you have minus what you want, and by this measure some billionaires are broke.

Morgan Housel

Real wealth isn’t money, fame and fancy cars.

Wealth is also a measure of your mental and emotional state.

When you desires outweigh or equal what they have, you are "broke" in this deeper sense, always chasing, never satisfied.

EXPLORE

The Invisible Finish Line

This weekend, I traveled to compete in a triathlon with the same group of friends I’ve trained with for a few years now. We’ve done races before, so this wasn’t our first rodeo, yet something deeper always lingers long after the medals are packed away.

I realized something important: the real reward wasn’t the medal. It was the people who continue to show up for each other.

The shared grit, early mornings, tired legs, the jokes during long runs and the unspoken encouragement in hard moments.

Every time we go away together, I come home with something that can't be measured: a full cup.

Not just from the race, but from the deep sense of belonging we’ve built over time. That’s the power of community. It's not loud or flashy. It’s the invisible net that holds you when life gets heavy.

And in a world that constantly pushes individual success, it’s easy to forget: we’re not meant to do this alone.

And maybe, just maybe, the real finish line we’re all racing toward isn’t a medal or a milestone. It’s the quiet joy of knowing we didn’t run the race alone.

So here’s your nudge:
Reach out to someone in your circle this week. Plan that coffee. Join that group run. Send that message.
Because community doesn’t build itself, it happens when we show up for each other.
