Hedonic vs Eudaimonic Happiness

Have you ever wondered why some moments feel instantly joyful, while others give you a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment?
This all ties back to a concept rooted in ancient Greek philosophy.
Hedonic vs. Eudaimonic happiness:
Hedonic happiness is all about pleasure and immediate gratification. It’s what we experience when we enjoy life’s simple pleasures like eating our favorite dessert, relaxing on the beach, or binge-watching a great show. These moments boost our mood and give us that quick hit of joy.
Relying too much on hedonic happiness can give you quick bursts of joy, but without deeper meaning or purpose, it can leave you feeling unfulfilled in the long run.
Eudaimonic happiness runs much deeper. It’s about finding meaning and purpose in life. This type of happiness comes from personal growth, building relationships, or working towards long-term goals. It’s not always about feeling good in the moment, but it brings lasting fulfillment.
Focusing only on Eudaimonic happiness can sometimes make life feel like an endless pursuit of goals, causing us to miss out on the simple, everyday joys that keep us balanced and energized along the way.
The key to true happiness?
We need both.
The challenge most people face is incorporating a balanced approach to your well being by understanding when to seek out Hedonic happiness and when to strive for Eudaimonic happiness.
Pleasure keeps life fun and enjoyable, while meaning and purpose give us direction and fulfillment. Finding a balance between the two can lead to a richer, more satisfying life.
So, enjoy the little things, but don’t forget to also focus on what matters most.

24 Controversial Truths About Success & Failure
When two intellectual giants collide, you get groundbreaking ideas that challenge the way we think and transform our understanding of the world.
Their ability to dissect, link and explain information is a skill to behold.
That’s how I feel trying to keep up with these two.
They are two young very successful entrepreneurs who I both admire and love listening to.
Modern Wisdom is a podcast hosted by Chris Williamson.
In this episode, they break down tweets, opinions and quotes by Alex.
Some of Alex’s views on certain topics are very controversial, but they spark thought provoking curiosity and a fresh perspective in things.
At one point in the conversation, they are talking about the constant pursuit of goals.
Alex said something with reference to goals that has stuck with me for weeks now. He said, “the mountain has no peak”.
This was a stark reminder that although it is important to strive for continuous improvement in all areas of your life, it is more important to enjoy the journey along the way.
If you are continuously using the next big achievement to satisfy you, you will never be truly fulfilled.
Life will continue to pose challenges.
Find pleasure and joy in the present climb (Hedonic) or you will never find true fulfillment and happiness when you reach each summit. (Eudaimonic)
Remember - “You’ve already achieved the goals, you said would make you happy”. - Alex Hormozi
P.S - I advise locking this podcast in on a long run or journey, when you can really zone in and focus.
MOTIVATION
Chinese Proverb on Happiness
The flowers of all tomorrows are in the seeds of today.
This proverb explains that actions we take now such as nurturing relationships and doing good, plant the seeds for future happiness.
I challenge you to do these over the next week!
Practice Gratitude: Take a few moments each day to reflect on what you’re thankful for. Tell someone you’re grateful to have them in your life.
Nurture Relationships: Reach out to friends or family members. When was the last time you phoned your parents?
Engage in Acts of Kindness: Volunteer your time or help someone in need. A small gestures can make a big difference in the lives of others.
Set Personal Goals: Identify what truly matters to you and set achievable goals that align with those values. Then, get after it!
Invest in Yourself: Dedicate time to activities that promote your well-being, like reading, exercising, or pursuing a hobby.
Hit that reply button and let me know which one worked for you. Did it bring you happiness?
