Who is the most important voice in your life?

  1. Your parents?
They’re there for a massive part of your life, especially during those first 18 years. But after that, the time spent with them tends to drop off dramatically.

  2. Your teachers?
Sure, you’ve had a few memorable ones, but let’s be honest—most don’t stick around as a major influence.

  3. Your friends?
Friends are impactful. They influence how you talk, dress, and even your life goals. Look at any tight-knit group, and you’ll see a lot of shared habits.

But the truth is, none of the above hold the top spot.

The Most Important Voice Is...

The one no one else hears.

It’s the voice in your head.

Think about it. This voice is the director of your life. It decides what’s worth your time, what’s not, and what each experience means. And here’s the kicker: that voice never stops talking.

Studies suggest the average person has around 60,000 thoughts a day. Of those, 80% are negative, and 95% are repetitive. That’s our brain’s default setting.

But the good news? You can reprogram it.

The Stories We Tell Ourselves

When Tim Ferriss, bestselling author and entrepreneur, was 17, he stumbled on a life-changing book: Mental Toughness Training for Sports by Dr. Jim Loehr.

The core idea?
“The most powerful force in your life is the voice in your head. The stories you tell yourself create your reality.”

That’s right. Your stories become your truth.

Here’s an example:

When I started making videos for my youtube channel, I had big hopes. I hit “publish” and…nothing. No messages, no tweets, no buzz. Just silence.

Looking for answers, I played the episode back. And wow, my inner voice went wild:
“Is that what I sound like? This is awful. Why did I even try this?”

Here’s an example of an inner critic.

Your Inner Voice

Sound familiar? That inner critic loves to show up when you’re stepping out of your comfort zone.

But here’s the twist:
The story your voice tells you isn’t the truth. It’s just a truth.

How to Take Control

1) Reality isn’t black and white. It’s neutral. The meaning you assign to it gives it power.

So next time that voice starts whispering (or yelling), pause. Ask yourself:

  • What’s another way to look at this?

  • What other story could I tell myself?

Then, choose the story that serves you.

2) Keep every promise you make to yourself. This builds self-confidence, self-accountability and trust within you.

The only person you truly have in this life is you, try not the let them down

Remember This

Life is all made up. And the incredible thing is, you get to make it up.

So, what story are you going to tell today?

You’ve got the pen, write something amazing.

Thank you to Shaan buri for this awesome reframe on this concept.

INSIGHTS

Living with ADHD

The Imperfects podcast, hosted by Hugh van Cuylenburg, Ryan Shelton, and Josh van Cuylenburg, explores vulnerability, resilience, and personal growth through inspiring guest stories and expert insights.

In this episode they interview ADHD psychologist Janelle Booker.

I was recently recommended this episode about ADHD.

Here is a break down of what they talk about in this episode:

  • ADHD can foster creativity and innovation but comes with challenges like timekeeping, organization, and emotional regulation.

  • People with ADHD are more prone to mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and addictive behaviors.

  • ADHD impacts on school life, leading to shame and self-regulation struggles.

  • The effects of ADHA partners in relationships.

  • The Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) trait affects 15-20% of the population, influencing their interactions and experiences.

It was a interesting episode because some of the characteristics of ADHD brain are in most of the population.

It sparks great food for thought and may help you identify if you do in fact have ADHD.

Check it out, you won’t be disappointed!

MOTIVATION

Surrender vs Struggle

The universe meets you at the depth of your surrender, not at the height of your struggle.

Matt Cooke

Read that twice.

The universe doesn’t respond to how hard you struggle but to how deeply you let go.

When you release control and trust the process, you create space for life to flow and align with you.

True breakthroughs come from surrender, not resistance.
