The 1% Drift Prinicple

The 1% Drift Principle

A pilot flying from New York to Los Angeles travels roughly 2,500 miles.

If the plane shifts just 1 degree off course, it doesn’t look dramatic. The nose barely moves.

But over that distance, 1 degree equals roughly 40–45 miles off target.

No crash.
No warning sirens.
Just a small, consistent misalignment.

That’s the 1% Drift Principle:

Small deviations, repeated over time, create massive separation from the original destination.

Drift doesn’t feel dangerous in the moment.

It feels harmless.

One skipped workout.
One late night scrolling.
One avoided hard conversation.
One small compromise on standards.

Individually? Nothing.

Compounded? Everything.

Success isn’t usually built in grand gestures.

Failure isn’t usually caused by catastrophe.

Both are products of direction.

The disciplined aren’t perfect.

They just correct early.

They notice the 1-degree shift and adjust before it becomes 40 miles.

Your life is always moving.

The only question is whether it’s aligned.

Because intensity matters less than direction.

So ask yourself:

Where are you 1 degree off right now, and what will that cost you in five years?

The Moth And The Lamp

A moth flies toward light.

It mistakes a lamp for the moon.

The moon guides it naturally.
The lamp burns it.

We pity the moth because it can’t tell the difference.

But then…

We wake up.
Scroll.
Consume.
Compare.
React.
Repeat.

We mistake the glow of a screen for real life.

Connection for consumption.
Status for meaning.
Noise for truth.
Attention for significance.

The lamp looks like the moon.

But it doesn’t guide you anywhere.

It just keeps you circling.

Social media shows outcomes without context.
Wins without losses.
Voices without depth.

The danger isn’t technology.

It’s confusing stimulation with significance.

I deleted my social media accounts over 50 days ago. I’ve never been in a better headspace.

Give it a go.

Wisdom From The Real Life Tarzan

Relentlessness is the greatest skill you can leave because there are so many opportunities you can give it.

Paul Rosolie

A farmer was given a bag of rare seeds.

He was told they would grow into something extraordinary.

But planting them meant digging the soil.
Watering daily.
Waiting through storms.

So he planted one.

When the wind bent the sprout, he pulled it out.

“It’s not working,” he said.

He planted another.

When growth was slow, he dug it up.

“This one isn’t right.”

By the end of the season, he still had a full bag of seeds.

Perfectly safe.

Perfectly unused.

Don’t be like the farmer.

The harvest belongs to the relentless.

Canva Bulk Create

Okay, so this one is not new, but it is super handy!

When I was a teacher, I used to create a lot of my content in Canva to present in class.

Turns out, this has translated into my marketing role too.

Which got me thinking…

This can be useful for so many different occupations.

Canva has a bulk create feature, which helps you create or replicate content to save you buckets of time.

The video above explains exactly how to do this!

You’re welcome 😉

Ambitious Question

What would your ambition look like without an audience?

In case you missed last week’s newsletter, I spoke about:

TEACH: The Possibility Grid: a simple 2×2 thinking tool to avoid survivorship bias and make better decisions by weighing both action and inaction.

INSIGHTS: Why sleep is performance architecture, how chronotypes shape productivity, and practical tools like the 3-2-1 rule to optimise recovery.

MOTIVATION: A powerful quote on misinterpretation, and how the way people distort things reveals more about them than the situation itself.

EXPLORE: Foxy AI: an AI video creation tool I’ve been testing in my marketing role to reduce friction between idea and execution.
