The Goldfish Effect

The Goldfish Effect

Ever heard of the Goldfish Effect?

Most people assume it’s about intelligence, but that’s not the case.

If you keep a goldfish in a tiny bowl, it stays small. But if you move it to a bigger tank, it grows to fit its surroundings.

The same thing happens to us. Our environment shapes our beliefs, habits, values and potential far more than we realize.

If you’re feeling stuck, unmotivated, or out of alignment with your goals and values, it might not be a lack of willpower, it could be your environment holding you back.

Now I know for some people it is not as easy as just uplifting your life and moving locations, however, there are actions you can take to help you improve your situation.

So, how can you change it?

  1. Audit Your Circle – Are the people around you pushing you forward or keeping you stagnant?

You don’t have to cut people off completely, but you can spend more time with those who inspire you. You are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with.

  2. Upgrade Your Inputs – What you read, watch, and listen to rewires your thinking. Swap mindless scrolling for books, podcasts, and content that expands your perspective.

  3. Rearrange Your Space – Small tweaks can make a big difference.

Want to work out more? Keep your gym clothes visible.

Need to read more? Put a book on your pillow.

Want to eat cleaner? Remove all junk food from your pantry.

  4. Change Your Routine – Even small shifts, like taking a different route to work, working from a new coffee shop, or exploring a new hobby, can reset your mindset and spark fresh ideas.

You don’t need to move to a new city to grow. Sometimes, a few intentional changes to your daily surroundings are enough to break out of the bowl and start swimming in a bigger tank.

So ask yourself, are you living in a goldfish bowl or an ocean of opportunity?

Your environment isn’t just where you are it’s who you become.

Analyze it, identify how you can improve it, and make the necessary changes!

MOTIVATION

If you do not bend, you will break.

If you do not bend, you will break. The adaptable prevail. Determined, but flexible.

In today’s fast-paced life, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and left behind.

A powerful reminder that if you are not evolving, you’re fading.

Stay focused. Embrace change.

Growth isn’t just an advantage, it’s survival.

CapCut Templates

If you have ever tried to edit video content you had recorded manually, you will know that it can be like sucking the fun out of creativity, slow, tedious, and frustrating.

Every cut, transition, and adjustment feels like an uphill battle, turning what should be an exciting process into a time-consuming chore.

ENTER….

CapCut is a very well-known video editing app and has been around for a while but it is just too good not to share.

I used the spend hours editing content for my podcast. Now it takes me a 10th of the time and the content quality I’m putting out is much better!

I have been using CapCut for about a month now and I could not recommend it enough if you are looking for quick quality video content.

It allows you to choose from 1000s of templates which you can put your videos into and customize your own video. You also have the option to create videos from scratch.

There are a whole host of other apps like this out there but for me, this one has been the most user-friendly.

Check out some of the reels that I’ve been making to see for

Feedback is welcome as always! 😉

Ambitious Question

Are you a product of your environment, or is your environment a product of you?

In case you missed last week's newsletter, I spoke about:

TEACH: The Effort Paradox – Trying too hard can make success harder to achieve. When you step back and allow your subconscious to process, breakthroughs happen naturally.

INSIGHTS: Surrounded By Idiots – Thomas Erikson’s book breaks down personality types into four color groups, helping you understand how different people think and communicate. A must-read for psychology lovers.

MOTIVATION: Are You Already Rich? – If more money wouldn’t change how you spend your time, you’re already rich. True wealth is loving what you do and having strong relationships.

EXPLORE: Weekly Schedule – I’ve been testing a structured weekly plan to maximize productivity while allowing flexibility. The key takeaway? Small, consistent actions compound over time.

Ambitious Question: If you lost everything tomorrow, what would still make life meaningful?

Check it out here.

Feel free to share this if you gained any value from it. Feedback is also welcome.
