The Parable of The Mexican Fisherman

The Parable of The Mexican Fisherman

Ever heard the story of the Mexican fisherman and the American businessman? It's a simple little parable, but it packs a huge punch when it comes to how we think about success, happiness, and just... well, life!

Imagine a laid-back Mexican fisherman chilling on his boat, just finishing up a successful morning of catching a few fish. An American businessman, on vacation, walks by and starts chatting. The businessman is super impressed with the quality of the fish but asks why the fisherman isn't staying out longer to catch more.

The fisherman, with a shrug and a smile, says he's caught enough for his family's needs.

The businessman, being a go-getter, then launches into a passionate speech about how the fisherman could totally scale up: "You could fish longer, buy a bigger boat, hire more people, even open your own cannery! Then you'd move to the city, manage your empire, and eventually sell stock and become super rich!"

The fisherman, listening patiently, finally asks, "And then what, señor?"

The businessman beams, "Then, my friend, you could retire early, move to a small coastal village, sleep late, fish a little, play with your grandkids, take a siesta with your wife, and enjoy your evenings with friends!"

The Mexican fisherman just smiles and says, "But, señor, isn't that what I'm doing now?"

In our fast-paced world, it's so easy to get caught up in the grind, believing that happiness is always just one more promotion, one bigger house, or one more achievement away.

We're constantly pushing, striving, and accumulating, often delaying our actual "living" until some far-off future. But the fisherman reminds us: what if the life you're working so hard for is actually available to you, or parts of it, right now?

Take a minute and ask yourself:

  • What is "enough" for me?

  • Am I truly living for my purpose, or for an endless pursuit dictated by external expectations?

  • Are we sacrificing our present peace for a future "someday" that might already be here, just disguised in simplicity?

It's a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the richest life isn't about having the most, but about appreciating the simple abundance you already have.

Better Sleep

Something I have been trying to nail down recently, my sleep!

I just can’t quite seem to get it right. Some nights are good, some nights are bad, but I’m yet to get a sleep score close to 90.

Dr. Eric Berg is a chiropractor and health educator known for his videos and content on topics like healthy ketosis, intermittent fasting, and various natural health approaches.

He often shares advice on diet and lifestyle to improve overall well-being.

In this video he offers some advice on how you can improve you sleep, and guess what?

It’s all the stuff we already know we should be doing!

Eat early, exercise, magnesium ect.

What I like about his channel is it is unsensored health advice and it equips you with knowledge to make your own decisions about your health.

P.S - I am no way affiliated with Dr Ber, I just like his content.

MOTIVATION – The Power of Ownership – Embracing the truth that "what you’re not changing, you’re choosing" and that true growth comes from moving beyond comfort.

EXPLORE – The 10/10/10 Rule – A simple filter for worries, asking if something will matter in 10 minutes, 10 months, or 10 years, to choose where to focus your energy. Ambitious Question – Who do you need to have an honest conversation with?
