Human Kintsugi

Human Kintsugi

Imagine you have your favourite bowl.

Then one day you drop it, and it smashes into pieces.

Most people would throw it away, but in Japan, they have a special way of fixing it (Because everything they do is awesome!)

They don’t hide the cracks but rather put it back together and fill the cracks with gold.

This is the Japanese art of Kintsugi.

The bowl doesn’t look like it did before.

It looks different, yet somehow beautiful!

That bowl represents every one of us and the journey through our lives.

Because here’s the truth.

None of us get through life without breaking.

A relationship ends.
A dream collapses.
A version of you dies.

And in those moments, it feels like the damage is permanent.

We try to sweep up the pieces quickly. Pretend it didn’t hurt. Move on fast. Stay strong.

But what if the crack is the point?

Pain has a strange way of exposing what comfort hides. It strips ego. It forces reflection. It filters what truly matters from what merely distracts you.

The failed relationship teaches you your standards.
The business setback sharpens your resilience.
The health scare resets your priorities.

The crack is where the illusion leaves and the truth enters.

The person you were had to fracture so the person you’re becoming could emerge.

That’s not weakness.

That’s refinement.

We are Human Kintsugi.

Your scars are not evidence of failure, they’re evidence of survival, growth, and earned wisdom.

So don’t rush to hide your cracks.

Fill them with gold.

Because the most powerful people in the room aren’t the unbroken ones.

They’re the ones who rebuilt and shine because of it.

INSIGHTS

Why You Never Feel Rested

If you’re a health nut like me, you’ve probably heard of heart rate variability.

I always thought the higher your HRV, the better your health and the longer you live.

Turns out that is not the case at all.

Everyone’s HRV is unique, and what is high for you may not be low for someone else, and it is all relative to the individual.

Living in Vietnamfor 10 years, I struggled to regulate my nervous system; it’s great to now understand why.

If you want a clear, no-nonsense breakdown of how to actually use HRV as a health signal (without obsessing over numbers), this episode of Modern Wisdom is well worth your time.

They dive into what HRV really measures, how to interpret it properly, and how to use it as a practical tool to train smarter, recover better, and understand your body instead of fighting it.

Less comparison.
More awareness.
Better decisions.

Highly recommended.

Done Is Better Than Perfect

Done is better than perfect because perfect never gets done.

Clark Kegley

Yikes! This one struck a nerve.

Too often, we wait to start because we want all the stars to align before we do.

It’s like waiting for perfect weather to go for a run.

Turns out, perfect is just fear in disguise.

Done beats perfect every time.

EXPLORE

Linear App

Linear

I onboarded a new client last week and got exposed to some of the systems they use to run a fully remote business.

Because everything is remote, they need a clean way to track workflows, manage tasks, and keep people accountable without micromanaging.

That’s where Linear comes in.

Linear is a fast and minimalist project management app built around AGILE-style workflows. It involves issues, cycles, roadmaps, and clear ownership. If you’re familiar with AGILE, this will feel intuitive very quickly.

What stood out to me is how uncluttered it feels. It’s a clear system for turning ideas into action and tracking what actually gets done.

If you’re a business owner, part of a remote team, or just someone who likes to plan ahead and stay accountable, Linear is worth exploring.

I must be honest, it takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it’s powerful!

They have a free plan and various pricing options. Check it out if you love to optimize your productivity.

Ambitious Question

If your scars disappeared tomorrow, what wisdom would you lose?

In case you missed last week’s newsletter, I spoke about:

TEACH: Maslow’s Hammer, why relying on the same approach can keep you stuck, and how knowing when to change tools matters more than pushing harder.

INSIGHTS: The incredible story of Paul Rosolie, the “real-life Tarzan,” and his work in the Amazon with wildlife conservation.

MOTIVATION: Playing the hand you have, not the one you wish you had — and why honesty beats ambition without awareness.

EXPLORE: Fasting myths, personal experimentation with a flexible 15–18 hour fasting window, and what actually happens in the body during a fast.

Check it out here.

Feel free to share this if you gained any value from it. Feedback is also welcome.
