The Surfer Mentality

This may be known by many, but it is a fairly new concept I’ve taken on board in my life.
Here are some observations I’ve made that I can apply to my own life.
The mentality of a surfer is that they know that every wave is going to end and a new one will come.
This can be applied to different stages or cycles throughout life. Inevitably, everything comes to an end.
Surfers also know that they can’t ride every wave and that 90% of the time, they will be paddling or waiting.
Some people say timing is everything and I have to agree.
Stay consistent no matter what and wait for that right opportunity to present itself.
When that opportunity presents itself, grasp it with both hands but also know that not every opportunity is meant to be taken. Find the right opportunity that works for you.
Patience and positioning are the most important factors when that next wave arrives.
Put yourself in the best position for that opportunity when it does arise. A big lesson I’ve learned recently here.
Lastly, a surfer knows that he needs to be in the ocean in order to catch those waves. You can’t catch waves from the shore.
You have to put yourself out there. The opportunity cost of not putting yourself out there is far greater than sitting around waiting. You never know what opportunities may arise.
This is a reminder that change is a constant, so embrace it, take action, at the right time and stay consistent once you start.
INSIGHTS
Get Ahead of 99% of People Today
I am a big fan of Mark Manson. He wrote the book, A Subtle Art of Not Giving a F%&k.
In this video he focuses on practical strategies and mindset shifts for achieving extraordinary success. Here are the key points:
Be Unique and Correct: Find a different approach that others don’t see, and make sure it's right.
Stay Consistent: Keep doing the right things over time, even when it’s tough.
Success Isn’t Easy: Being successful can come with challenges, like facing failures and criticisms.
Define Success Personally: Focus on what success means to you, not just what others think.
It is all well and good creating opportunities in life but it’s pointless if you don’t act on them.
I spoke about the 4 components of action a couple of weeks ago. Check it here!

MOTIVATION
New Beginnings Are New Opportunities
New beginnings are often disguised as painful endings.
Are you experiencing significant change in your life at the moment?
Or maybe you have before or you’ve just experienced a big change recently.
Too often we cling onto the past because it is what we know and it seems familiar, when actually, there may be a lifechanging opportunity just around the corner but we are to afraid to let go.
James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits said something that completely flipped my perspective on moving on to better opportunities.
He Said, “Move toward the next thing, not away from the last thing. Same direction, Completely different energy”.
Let that sink in…
